Week 5 Fantasy Player Matchups and Decisions

Sam Bradford proved in 2012 that he's the real deal.

Week five of the fantasy football season will roll with just 14 games, meaning four teams are on bye and your roster could be hurting. I’m talking to you, Detroit Lions homers, after you hoarded your roster with Matthew Stafford, Calvin Johnson, Mikel Leshoure and Brandon Pettigrew.

If you’re not totally screwed by the bye weeks, then dive right into our week five fantasy matchups as we dissect every single relevant or borderline relevant player in every game for the week:

Note: All players are rated on a five star scale: ★★★★★

Arizona Cardinals @ St. Louis Rams

 Cardinals Fantasy Options

QB Kevin Kolb -Not putting up amazing fantasy numbers, but has been decent. Faces a tough challenge with Rams secondary though.

QB John Skelton –Returned to practice Tuesday. Will be interesting to see if he can play.

RB Ryan Williams –Lost a bit against Dolphins but should bounce back against Rams D.

RB William Powell –Will get some touches in.

WR Larry Fitzgerald – Stud you gotta play every week, although matchup not great this week. ★★★★★

WR Andre Roberts – Has been scoring but tough matchup and he doesn’t get a ton of targets. ★★★

WR Early Doucet – Not heavily targeted and matchup stinks so tough to rely on. ★★

WR Michael Floyd – Targets are hit or miss but he has potential. ★★

TE Todd Heap – Extremely inconsistent and can’t be relied on. ★★

TE Rob Housler – Great athlete with upside but just isn’t playing enough right now.

K Jay Feely – Always active and should get plenty of chances in this one. ★★★★

Cardinals DEF/ST – Nasty defense and Rams can certainly be contained. ★★★★★

VS.

 Rams Fantasy Options

QB Sam Bradford – Has been OK but matchup does not look good. ★★★

RB Steven Jackson – Not quite 100% yet and matchup could be tough. ★★★

RB Daryl Richardson – Not really getting the ball much right now.

WR Danny Amendola – Will get his targets and Hartline did crush them so there’s a chance. ★★★

WR Brandon Gibson – Very hit or miss and role seems to be shrinking. ★★

WR Chris Givens – Deep threat who is getting more chances. ★★

WR Brian Quick – Rookie with no clear role so hard to trust right now.

WR Austin Pettis – Not getting many targets so can’t roll with him with this matchup.

WR Steve Smith – Isn’t a factor, so can’t trust him.

TE Lance Kendricks – Waiting for him to blow up, but unlikely to happen this week. ★★

K Greg Zuerlein – Excellent rookie kicker hasn’t missed yet. Great play. ★★★★★

Rams DEF/ST – Underrated defense and the matchup is solid. ★★★★

Green Bay Packers @ Indianapolis Colts

 Packers Fantasy Options

QB Aaron Rodgers – A must start always and Colts defense is weak. ★★★★★

RB Cedric Benson – He’s getting 91% of the carries so he’s the only GB runner you need to worry about. Solid matchup. ★★★★

WR Jordy Nelson – Finally got going last week and Colts give him another shot this week. ★★★★★

WR Greg Jennings – Looks to rest his sore groin this week, so get him out of your lineup. ★★

WR James Jones – Will be the #2 with Jennings out, and scored twice last week. ★★★★

WR Randall Cobb – Got involved again last week so has potential again. ★★★

WR Donald Driver – Jennings is probably out so he could see some action. ★★

TE Jermichael Finley – Really hasn’t been consistent but matchup works for sure. ★★★★

K Mason Crosby – Should be as active as ever, so use him as usual. ★★★★★

Packers DEF/ST – D has been solid and they could pick off Luck a few times. ★★★★

VS.

 Colts Fantasy Options

QB Andrew Luck – Luck has been solid and he’ll be passing a lot vs. Pack. ★★★

RB Donald Brown – Packers aren’t great against run so he has Flex value at the worst. ★★★

RB Vick Ballard – Doesn’t have much of a role but is still a guy to watch.

WR Reggie Wayne – Will be focus of defense but Luck targets him like crazy so use him. ★★★★

WR Donnie Avery – Has shown he can do well and Collie is done for season so he has a chance. ★★★

WR T.Y. Hilton – Went off in his last game so his stock is certainly on the rise. ★★★

WR Lavonn Brazil – 4th option at best but he still has some potential.

TE Coby Fleener – Hasn’t done jack since week 1 but you never know. ★★

TE Dwayne Allen – Looking like the TE to use in Indy right now due to being on field more. ★★

K Adam Vinatierie – Mr. reliable should be pretty active in this one. ★★★★

Colts DEF/ST – Their D isn’t good and facing Pack makes it way worse.

Philadelphia Eagles @ Pittsburgh Steelers
